Ron Johnston
  As sports editor for The Marietta Times, Ron Johnston supervises three sports writers, designs and paginates the sports pages daily and, of course, writes a sports column and writes about local sports events too. Ron is no stranger to sports writing. He came to The Times in February of 2007 after working for The Parkersburg News and Sentinel for 16 years. When asked about what he likes about his job Ron says, "Covering sports is not a job, but a labor of love."

A graduate of Heidelberg College, Ron has received number one sports columnist in West Virginia (2006) and number three sports columnist in Ohio (2007). In his spare time, Ron enjoys all sports, music, and taking walks in Marietta with his wife of 38 years, Rebecca, and their Chihuahua, Poncho. Ron and his wife have four adult children, Jason, Jassandra, Jacob, and Jennifer.

Claire Hogue-Heiby
  As one of four copy editors, Claire Hogue-Heiby helps lay out and paginate news pages daily for The Marietta Times. She also paginates the River Times and full-color Comics sections in our paper weekly and archives news stories. She started working for The Times in 1986 through the MHS Cooperative Business Education program as a typist. After graduation from Marietta High School in 1987, she continued working for The Times part-time as the news librarian. Then in 1993, Claire was hired full time, working as a librarian/news clerk and was promoted in 2004 to her current position as copy editor. Claire has been chosen Employee of the Month numerous times and 2003 Employee of the Year.
   Claire and her husband, Dave, live in Devola with their two daughters – Jenna and Jessica. Claire enjoys spending time with her family and fixing up their 104-year old home.

Evan Bevins
Evan Bevins is no newcomer to the newsroom. He has worked his way up from a reporter covering a variety of beats in 2002 to a weekend editor at The Parkersburg News before joining The Marietta Times as News Editor in 2007. Along with his duties of assigning and editing stories, Evan also writes a story or two occasionally.

Evan, a Marshall University alumnus, resides in Marietta with his new bride Elisha. His claim to fame is that he got to be one of the thousands of extras in the final scene of "We Are Marshall," (even though he didn't make the final cut). He is an avid movie goer, reader and comic book fan, which led to his writing a Times' blog, "Upon Further Review," which appears on On his blog, Evan reviews new movie and DVD releases, and of course comic books.

Sam Shawver
Seasoned reporter and WVU Mountaineer alumnus, Sam Shawver, covers the "City Beat" for The Marietta Times – reporting on everything from city council meetings and local business projects to area festivals, fundraising and political events. He has received several awards for his reporting including W.Va. Press Association Awards and the Chesapeake Region AP Mark Twain Award for Outstanding Breaking News.

After working for newspapers in Cumberland, Md. and Keyser, W.Va., Sam returned to his roots in Williamstown – the town from whence he was born and raised. He has three grown daughters: Leah, Anna, and his youngest, Laura. In his spare time, which is rare, Sam enjoys fishing, playing his guitar and watching movies.

Kate York
Kate York is working on her fourth year with The Marietta Times. As the education reporter, Kate covers local school events, activities, and board meetings – including Marietta College, Washington State Community College and Washington County Career Center.

Currently a resident of Marietta, Kate hails from Tennessee, Virginia and Maryland, graduating from North Hagerstown High School in Maryland. She is also a 2002 graduate of Marietta College with a Bachelor's degree in journalism. While attending college, Kate worked as a stringer for The Times – covering a variety of assignments; and was also editor-in-chief of The Marcolian.

Kate's accolades include two Ohio Associated Press awards – one for "Best Breaking News, 2004" and the other for "Best Feature Writer, 2005."

Jim Bartholow
Although he was born and raised in Cleveland, Jim Bartholow calls Marietta his home now. After all, he's lived in Marietta for 36 years with his wife Leslie, where together they raised two children a son, Jamie, and a daughter, Jana Joseph.

Working 36 years at The Marietta Times, Jim has also worn many hats, including that of reporter, feature writer, headline writer and his current postion as senior copy editor.

Jim also a blog about the many loves of his life – his family (including his 3 grandchildren), the Cleveland Indians, local sports, the good old days, food and, of course, life in the Mid-Ohio Valley.

Jim has won numerous awards from The Associated Press, the most recent was APSO Honorable Mention - Best Headline Writer, 2007. He was also named The Marietta Times 2007 Employee of the Year.

Erin O'Neill
Born and raised in Marietta, Erin is a 1992 graduate of Marietta High School and a 2000 graduate of Wright State University, where she earned a bachelor's degree in creative writing. After living for some time in Athens, Dayton and Columbus, she returned to the Mid-Ohio Valley in 2006 to raise her daughter.

Erin is a reporter and copy editor for The Marietta Times. She also writes a blog with which she hopes to connect with other parents. Erin welcomes story ideas, tips and advice on parenting, and general comments or suggestions.

Kevin Pierson
As a sports writer for The Marietta Times, Kevin Pierson covers all kinds of local sports – boys and girls, little leagues to area colleges and of course, area high schools. Kevin started off as a stringer for The Times in 2004 covering a variety of different beats. In 2007, he became a full time member of our sports team and brags, "I get paid to go watch and write about sports – what could be better!"

A graduate of Washington State Community College, Kevin also attended Marietta College. He is a member of the WSCC Karate Club; and he has received the HAVAR Inc. Visibility Awareness in the Media award and the Ohio High School Volleyball Coaches' Assoc. Appreciation award. In his spare time, Kevin enjoys karate, reading, airsoft, and computer games.
